Summer 2017 Guide to the Cape & Islands

As summer heats up, it’s time to plan vacations, day trips and long weekends. We’ve put together a short guide to Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, including places to stay, things to eat and activities.

Cape Cod

 

  • EAT : Portugese Cod while enjoying views of the ocean at Jimmy’s Hideaway (jimmyshideaway.com) or grab the best mudslide the Cape has to offer at the Chart Room (chartroomcataumet.com).

Nantucket

 

  • EAT : Grilled Atlantic Swordfish at Dune, a comfortable yet gourmet restaurant and bar (dunenantucket.com) and then head over to The Juice Bar Homemade Ice Cream for, you guessed it, delicious homemade ice cream, smoothies, sundaes and ice cream cakes of all flavors (12 Broad St).
  • STAY : At Nantucket’s hottest new hotel, The Greydon House, which combines the feel of a classic island inn with a trendy boutique hotel, not to mention the Michelin-star winning executive chef Marcus Gleadow-Ware commanding the kitchen. (17 Broad Street, greydonhouse.com)
  • PLAY : Explore the Coskata-Coatue Wildlife Refuge’s 16 miles of trails, dunes, coastal forests, and tidal ponds (thetrustees.org)

 

Martha’s Vineyard

 

  • EAT : Pan-seared Hudson Valley Foie Gras at The Terrace at The Charlotte Inn, where you might think you’ve stumbled into a garden oasis (theterracemv.com). Then head over to Back Door Donuts, open until 1:00AM, for late night donuts and fritters (mvbakery.com).
  • STAY : At the cozy, 13-room Beach Plum Inn (50 Beach Plum Ln., Menemsha, beachpluminn.com), where guests can gather eggs from the inn’s chickens, play a game of tennis or walk to the beach.
  • PLAY : Learn about wild edibles, tour a local oyster farm, or join local chefs for a meal that showcases the island’s farm-to-table ethos with Farm.Field.Sea. (ffsmv.com). Or stop by the Farm Institute (14 Aero Ave., Edgartown, farminstitute.org) to tour a working island farm.
